Allison Miller, Irregardless' long-time server and head waitress, was presented the Isaac Hunter Excellence in Service Award by the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau at their Annual Meeting on August 31, 2011. This Award recognizes front line employees in the hospitality industry who exceed normal expectations and requirements to provide excellent service to Wake County visitors and residents.
The awards are named for Isaac Hunter (1745-1823), who in 1769 opened a tavern near Crabtree Creek that became a popular stopping place for locals and visitors alike. In fact, Hunter's Tavern became so popular; the North Carolina General Assembly Capital Site Selection Commission required that the seat of state government be located within 10 miles of the tavern. The Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau created the awards in recognition of the hospitality Hunter extended to visitors and to recognize those who continue his tradition. Judging Criteria Nominees are evaluated on attitude, workplace knowledge, familiarity with the community, communications skills and the ability to exceed the visitor's expectations.
